Olympic figure skating champion Ekaterina Bobrova said she was upset because she did not win the star race at the Ageev Brothers and the Olympic Champions Cup Yuri Postrigay and Alexander Dyachenko in rowing and canoeing.
The Ageev Brothers Cup takes place on the Moscow Rowing Canal from August 25-28. The prestigious Friendship Race took place on Sunday between four kayakers at a distance of 200 meters. Each crew consisted of two professional rowers and two athletes from other disciplines. Bobrova competed in a boat with synchronized swimmer Alla Shishkina and rowers Maxim Oseledko and Andrei Laskorunsky. Bobrova’s crew took seventh place.
— I congratulate the winners of the “Friendship Race” on their victory, they are great! I’m always very happy when I’m invited to the Ageev Brothers Cup. These star races are always organized for the public, for fun, for such good entertainment. But we are athletes, Olympic champions and we always want to win. Two years ago, a year ago, I couldn’t do it. I’ve always been one step away from the podium or first place. Now I was determined to win, especially since I had an incredible team of young rowers – world junior champions, as well as Alla Shishkina, multiple Olympic champion in synchronized swimming.
We were so charged with winning that it played a cruel joke on us. We seem to have overestimated our abilities. Even though the guys were ready to row at full power. At some point in the race we lost our balance, we didn’t fall in the water, but because of that we had to slow down. Personally, I was upset that we didn’t win. But I hope that I will be invited to the Cup of Ageev brothers and Olympic champions Yuri Postrigai and Alexander Dyachenko. I would like to participate again! Bobrova told reporters.
