Olympic bronze medalist in track cycling Denis Dmitriev said he rejected offers to move to other teams.
In August, world track cycling championship winner Mikhail Yakovlev of Russia changed his sporting citizenship to Israeli.
– Denis, you are not attracted to national teams, maybe some neighboring countries?
“There were a few offers, but I turned them down,” Dmitriev told .
Sprint coach Vladimir Khozov noted that there have already been cases with proposals to change sports citizenship.
– We have cases where our athletes are invited. We’ve already lost Misha Yakovlev, and it’s really a huge loss. I hope that his transition will make the Russian Ministry of Sports and the representatives of the Olympic Committee think. I wish guys like Misha, who are really Olympic medal contenders, had targeted support,” Khozov said.
The International Cycling Union (UCI), in the context of the situation in Ukraine, allowed Russians to compete under the auspices of the UCI only in a neutral status and not under Russian or Belarusian projects.
