On March 1, 2022, the World Athletics Association (World Athletics) banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions. The All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) has been stripped of its World Athletics membership since 2015 due to a large-scale doping scandal. From then on, Russian athletes could participate in international competitions only after obtaining neutral status.
— What are VFLA’s plans for the nearest future?
– First of all, we need to draw up a schedule for the next season. We are preparing for an independent audit by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in order to finally fulfill all the conditions of the roadmap for the re-establishment of the ARAF in the world of athletics.
– The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) faced an almost impossible condition for restoration. The International Biathlon Union has demanded that Russian athletes distance themselves from the special operation in Ukraine. Does VFLA have no such problems?
“We don’t have such requirements.
– When do you think Russian athletes will return to the world stage?
– I hope that in the new year we will be back. In what capacity, I don’t know. We have all sports under sanctions.
