The Ukrainian national team prepared well for the match against the Netherlands team, and therefore managed to win a landslide victory. The mentor of the “blue-yellows” Ugis Krastins spoke about this after the match of the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup in volleyball.
In addition, the coach is convinced that his wards will have enough strength for the quarterfinal match against the Slovenian team.
“Did the plan to neutralize Nimir Abdelaziz work? Yes. Our plan was to keep him. Of course, we studied him seriously. Of course, we could have played better against him, but if you look at the numbers, so, as I said, if the attack is 46%, then we win. It turned out to be 42%, so we can say that the plan worked.
It’s unbelievable. So much fun for the team guys. When there were moments when we were winning, even I had to stop myself and say: “Don’t rush, play every ball, and we’ll see.” There is no need to think ahead for success, it is very dangerous, because the men, despite such an emotional background, endured from the first ball to the last.
Of course, we do. I hope that all the nerves stayed in the morning workout, where we did not succeed. But it’s better to be nervous in the morning practice than in the evening game. It’s all good, but we’re doing it. There were two more meetings where they tried to make more arrangements.
It is very good. But, let’s put it this way: we were ready to play yesterday. However, the fact that we managed to get away from the group stage helped us. In the group stage, all games were smooth and nervous. So it’s good that we have time to recover.
Rest before Slovenia? Of course you have enough energy, where else to rest? It is necessary not to rest, but to maintain the condition. They will go home, in ice baths, everything needed for the recovery process. Tomorrow we will train and the next day we will play,” said Krastiņš.
It will be remembered that the Ukrainian national team defeated the Netherlands and for the first time in its history reached the quarterfinals of the world championship in volleyball. Here the wards of Ugis Krastiens will meet the hosts of the tournament – the national team of Slovenia. The meeting will take place on September 7th. The match will start at 22:00 Kyiv time.
