The Minister of Youth and Sports told how he changed his attitude towards the Russians after the start of the war.
When the war ends, sanctions will be lifted and Russian athletes will return to competition. Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Gutzeit said this in an interview with LB.ua.
In addition, the official told how his worldview changed with the start of a large-scale invasion of Kremlin troops in Ukraine.
– Beleniuk said that before the big war started, you said that sport should be out of politics.
– Yes, true, but Beleniuk also followed this position, and all athletes supported it. The IOC has always adhered to the principle of the Olympic Charter that “Sport is out of politics”. We have always lived and worked this way, but not in today’s realities. If our civilians, women, children, our soldiers are killed, then sport is no longer out of politics. There is no more sport outside of politics. Sports in politics.
– When the war is over, will sport remain out of politics?
– Once finished, we will return to this issue.
– That is, no goals after the victory to leave sanctions against Russia?
“Now, the most important thing is to win. But of course, when the war ends, step by step, the Russians will start to return to international competitions.
