Olympic champion figure skater Sotnikova told how she fought in boxing with her doctor

Sochi Olympic champion figure skater Adeline Sotnikova in an interview with a correspondent, she recalled her boxing lessons and talked about her figure skating training activities.

Sotnikova attended on Saturday the opening of the International Sambo Center and the Boxing Center on the territory of the Luzhniki sports complex, the construction of which was completed this summer. The total area of the seven-story complex exceeds 45.6 thousand square meters. Under a common roof there are two independent training and competition centers for sambo and boxing, but separate entrances and parking are provided.

– We are glad to see you at the opening of the International Boxing Center in Luzhniki. What brings you?

– I love sport. In 2016, she was engaged in the ring, deciding to try something new for herself and began to train in boxing. I liked that: you splash all the negative emotions. Then, of course, the whole body hurts, because completely different muscles work, but nevertheless.

My grandfather, God bless him, was involved in the struggle. He talked about broken ears, etc. Sport is a sport to achieve your goals and move forward.

– Turns out you boxed before it became mainstream. What do you think of the fact that figure skaters are now organizing boxing master classes?

— I am for the fact that a person develops in different directions. Whether it’s sports or something else. This may be useful in the future.

– Didn’t you spare yourself?

– With a coach, maybe. Although I had the only fight – with my doctor Dmitry Dzukaev, who operated on me and then forced me to go to a comedy fight. He said to me, “Well, you will become an Olympic boxing champion.”

– What are you doing now in the field of figure skating?

– At the moment I am a coach in my school, I work with children in a different role. I have my own group. I also play in shows, I attend sporting events. The focus is on school,” Sotnikova, 26, told .

Sotnikova won the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and became Russia’s first-ever Olympic women’s singles champion.
