European athletics medalist Abdelwahed suspended on suspicion of using meldonium

Italian track and field athlete ahmed abdelwahed who competes in the 3,000 meter hurdles, was suspended on suspicion of violating anti-doping rules, according to the website of the independent organization for the fight against negative phenomena in athletics (AIU).

During the doping test of a 26-year-old athlete, the banned substance meldonium was discovered. Abdelwahed has been banned from competition since September 7.

Abdelwahed won silver in the steeplechase at the 2022 European Championships in Munich. He also has bronze in the Mediterranean Games and silver in the European Youth Championship.

Meldonium has been listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) since early 2016. In particular, tennis player Maria Sharapova, figure skater Ekaterina Bobrova, speed skater Pavel Kulizhnikov, short tracker Semyon Elistratov, curler Alexander Krushelnitsky have previously been convicted of using meldonium.
