The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) has decided to disqualify track and field athlete Olga Samylova for four years, until June 16, 2026.
Samylova is a well-known runner of the Russian national team in the past at a distance of 100 and 400 m hurdles, a repeated champion of the country, a participant in the European Championships. The last time she hit the runway was in 2015, she is now 36.
According to , the sample was taken from Samylova in 2012. The athlete used the licensed (then and now) drug “Ecdysterone”, which was “contaminated” with a banned drug. In accordance with the common practice at that time, the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, headed by Grigory Rodchenkov, having received the sanction of the leadership of the then All-Russian Athletics Federation, decided to hide the fact of a positive test .
Samylova is disqualified in accordance with paragraph 2.2. World Anti-Doping Code Use/Attempted Use of a Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method. In practice, this means that the proof of doping has been carried out without the most positive sample being present. In other words, we are talking about a disqualification based on the laboratory information management system (LIMS) database.
LIMS recorded the actions committed with the results of doping tests of Russian athletes for the period from 2012 to 2015. In January 2019, the data was handed over to WADA, which experts concluded had been manipulated in order to conceal doping violations.
