The Olympic champion said he decided to switch to the state language.

Ukrainian athletes have increasingly abandoned the use of the Russian language and switched to the state language. Olympic champion Olga Kharlan also announced this decision. According to the famous swordswoman, she was pushed to such a decision by the full-scale invasion of the Kremlin troops, and especially the shelling of her native Nikolaev.

“You know, somehow I’m ashamed, because something is being created here. Yes, it’s true, I’ve been speaking Russian all my life, it used to be normal. I can’t say that it was easy to switch to Ukrainian, but I tried, I love my language, but I don’t speak it in everyday life. Nikolaev always spoke Russian. Now I have made such a decision that I want to speak Ukrainian, give interviews in Ukrainian. My sister and I speak Ukrainian at home. Because it’s a bit difficult for me, because I have 4 languages here: English, Italian, Russian and Ukrainian. It often happens that when I talk to one of them, other languages ”come out” at me.

No one forced me, it was my decision. And I believe that social networks are the decision of everyone who speaks as he wants. I switched to Ukrainian on Instagram, but I still don’t do conversational stories because I don’t like my pronunciation, so I do this. The deeper I work on it, the more confident I become in my abilities. I really like Ukrainian. I also started reading books in Ukrainian, I can’t say that it was very easy. I’m not giving up Russian because it’s part of me, but I’m Ukrainian and I want to speak my native language,” Harlan said in an interview with Channel 24.

Recall that earlier the Olympic champion in gymnastics Oleg Vernyaev said that Ukrainians need to be motivated to switch to their own language.
