On the issue of admitting Russian athletes to international competitions, it all depends on the mood of the IOC, says Vyalbe

President of Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe on summarized the results of the country’s summer championship, talked about the planned events in the context of the suspension of Russians, and also assessed the possibility of returning Russian skiers to international departures.

– Probably, Saveliy Korostelev presented the biggest surprise for the guys, and for the girls Anastasia Prokofieva (Rygalina) quite unexpectedly behaved very stable and well. She won the classic and the cross – it’s very cool.

I’m always afraid of new surnames when they pop up out of nowhere. It is a pity that the athletes of the Yuri Borodavko group, suffering from the coronavirus, could not take part in the competition. However, everything went very well.

We compiled the competition calendar a long time ago, everything is in the Ministry of Sports. Like other federations, we have added Russian Cup stages – there are more. If we are not admitted to the World Cup, then we have the Commonwealth Cup, which will be held according to the same pattern, on the same days.

Some say that there seems to be some kind of relaxation, it seems that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is already looking a little differently … But at the same time, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and hockey are taking suspension decisions. It is quite difficult to say what will happen. I think it depends on the mood of the CIO. Athletes from non-Olympic sports compete and there are no problems,” Vyalbe said.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in March and suspended Russians and Belarusians from competitions due to the situation in Ukraine until the end of the season. The ban was later extended. Earlier, Vyalbe said the FIS is expected to make a decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes in early October.
