President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov hopes that Russian athletes will participate in the Paris 2024 qualifiers alongside athletes from other countries.
– What is the probability that our athletes will qualify before the Olympics?
— Our priority is to work on the eventual qualification of our athletes for the Olympic Games. Some sports qualify for national championships, others for international rankings, and we are more concerned about those sports. But we think we will start qualifying with everyone.
– What chances can we have in consideration of our application for TAS?
— The most important thing for us is that the Russian side has not been condemned for violating any regulations. It is difficult to assess the events to come, because the political forces intervene. But our lawyers are working on this issue, and we would like to receive an answer before the end of this year, Pozdnyakov told reporters after the ROC executive committee meeting.
At the end of February, the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions because of the situation in Ukraine. Many federations have followed these recommendations.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
