Athletistic/ Others. Martti Uusitalo, Finland’s representative on the board of the International Ski Federation (FIS), reacted to comments by FIS General Secretary Michel Wion that Russian athletes could soon be admitted to international tournaments.
“His statements were misinterpreted. There is no such intention, and there were no discussions on this subject. In his speech, Michel referred to the statement of the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach “It’s been said that at some point the sports world should prepare for the fact that Russians will start performing on the world stage again. But so far, that’s not the case,” said Usitalo.
At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations not allow Russian athletes to participate in competitions under their auspices due to the special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. These recommendations remain in effect until announced.
