Trubin: I knew back in May that I would go to the youth team in September

The goalkeeper of Shakhtar and the national and youth teams of Ukraine – about the teams, the start of the season and goals

Goalkeeper Miner Anatoly Trubin at the start of the new football season, he managed to play in four tournaments and three teams. With the Miners, the keeper began playing in the national championship and the Champions League, as part of the country’s national team he played against Scotland in the Nations League, with the youth team in the playoffs of the Euro 2023 qualification. In a short interview, Anatoly Trubin shared his impressions of the start of the season and talked about his goals.

– How did you react to the decision of the head coach of the national team of Ukraine Oleksandr Petrakov to send you to the youth team?

– Back in May, while preparing for the qualification for the World Cup and the League of Nations, Alexander Vasilyevich approached me and said that I needed to help the youth team. We talked about not leaving things unfinished and agreed that I would play the match against Scotland. I am very grateful for this opportunity. Regarding the departure to the youth team, I take it calmly. I understand that it is necessary to help the Ukrainian team. It doesn’t matter if it’s a national or youth team. I need to continue to work with high quality in order to gain a foothold in the national team to the maximum in the future.

– Still, it’s one thing when you were preparing psychologically to play for the national team – and here you are called up to the youth team … How not to lose motivation and remain a professional?

– It is impossible for me to lose motivation when it comes to the matches of the Ukrainian national team. I always wear the national team jersey with honor and pride. Of course, every player wants to play in the national team, and I am no exception. But now U-21 matches are no less important, especially when you need to go to the Euro.

– What can you say about the atmosphere in the teams?

“Nothing in particular has changed. The same friendly, even family, atmosphere.

– How do you like the start of the championship of Ukraine and the Champions League, did it live up to expectations? What can you highlight? How to play during the war, when the threat of air and missile strikes is constantly maintained?

– I think that the start is quite good. But this is only the beginning and there is no reason to relax. I can highlight team actions and the character that we build together.

– In the current situation, people do not try to think in advance, it is difficult to predict what will happen in a week. Do you think about the future or live for today? Maybe some new goals have appeared?

– I’m not an exception. I also make plans for today and tomorrow. Every day I do everything in my power where I am most useful and needed.

But nothing has changed in my global plans for my professional life. Since childhood, my goal was to play in the top leagues, but before that, it is imperative to get into the first team of Shakhtar and enter the field to the anthem of the Champions League. Why do I set the goal of the TOP championship? I know how important people-examples are for a little boy. Like Shevchenko, who once got to Milan. Or Chygrynskiy, who was bought by Barcelona. One of my goals is to become such an example – a guide. So that the guys who are just starting to play football have the belief that every Ukrainian can build a successful international career.

Right now I’m not really thinking about the realization of this goal. I just work on myself 101% every day.
