Member of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Roman Tereshkov believes that the five-time Olympic synchronized swimming champion Anastasia Davydova who had previously left Russia, was retained in the country only by work in the field of sports.
Earlier, a copy of the letter on Davydova’s departure from Russia appeared on , which notes that the 39-year-old ex-athlete has no plans to return to the country. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) said on Tuesday it had no information from Davydova, who serves as the organisation’s general secretary, about her departure from the country and the general secretary’s resignation. Davydova is also the head of the only Olympic synchronized swimming center in the world, opened in 2014 in Moscow.
– Sports desertion will inevitably give rise to sports mobilization. Only those bound to it by strong ties can experience both sorrow and joy with the country. Anastasia Davydova served as general secretary of the ROC and, like no one, is responsible for Russia playing without national symbols at the last Olympics, Teryushkov told .
Davydova is Olympic champion in 2004, 2008 and 2012, multiple world and European champion. Since 2014, Davydova has been the general secretary of the ROC.
