The Spaniard Nani Roma, double winner of the Dakar, has announced that he will miss the rally raid in 2023.
The 50-year-old driver is the Dakar winner in the motorcycle (2004) and SUV (2014) category. In March, he was diagnosed with cancer.
– I am announcing that I will not be going to Dakar 2023. I have recovered, I feel good, and for a few weeks I have been back in the car in very good health. But for technical reasons, and for lack of time before the start of the race, it is too difficult to participate.
As you know, it was not an easy year, the operations and the difficult times of chemotherapy were quite a challenge, but in every adverse situation, the motivation to run again helped me to move forward, because it is my life. For 27 years, I haven’t missed a single Dakar. Now, already thinking about next season, I assure you that me and the team will be back in 2023. Thank you all for your support,” Roma wrote on social media.
On Wednesday, the multiple winner of the marathon rally, the Russian team KAMAZ-master, announced that he was refusing to participate in the Dakar because he was not going to sign a letter from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) condemning the special operation in Ukraine.
