The Dutchman is chasing his second F1 World Championship title and this Sunday he could commit himself to Suzuka if there are some combinations, despite the fact that there are four days of competition left.
Max Verstappen one step away from celebrating his second consecutive world title in Formula 1. The 25-year-old Dutchman took pole and will start this Sunday at the Japanese Grand Prix, a scenario where he could win the championship twice if certain combinations are given. Find out what the Red Bull driver has to celebrate ahead of time.
What does Max Verstappen need to win the Japanese GP?
With four races to go, Verstappen has been the clear dominator of the championship and could be crowned this Sunday. For that he needs to add eight points more than Leclerc and six more than Checo, third in the World Cup -only two points behind the former-.
For this there are many possible combinations, but among the simplest and most feasible is the probability of Verstappen winning the race, with the fastest lap; or he won without a fast turn, as long as Charles Leclerc didn’t finish second on the legendary Japanese track.
What are the combinations for Max Verstappen to become champion in the Japanese GP
To establish himself with a lap record, Verstappen needs:
- 1. Win
- 2. If he is 3rd and Leclerc finishes 6th or worse and Pérez is 2nd or worse
- 3. If it is 5th and Leclerc finishes 9th or worse and Pérez is 3rd or worse
- 4. If it is 6th and Leclerc finishes 10th or worse and Pérez is 3rd or worse
Without a lap record, Verstappen needs:
- 1. If he finishes 2nd and Leclerc is 5th without fastest lap or worse and Pérez is 4th or worse
- 2. If he finishes 3rd and Leclerc is 7th or worse and Pérez is 5th or worse
- 3. If he finishes 4th and Leclerc finishes 9th or worse and Pérez 3rd or worse
- 4. If he finishes 5th and Leclerc finishes 9th without fastest lap or worse and Pérez finishes 3rd or worse
- 5. If he finishes 6th and Leclerc doesn’t score and Pérez is 4th or worse
