The Dutchman increased the lead over Leclerc in the overall standings
Pilot Red Bull Max Verstappen won Japanese Grand Prix and became the champion of the 2022 season in Formula 1.
At the Suzuka circuit, the Dutchman managed to keep the first position in the race after qualifying and did not give a chance to the main pursuer – Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).
Monegasque finished second, but was penalized with a 5-second penalty and eventually moved to third place. And the second was Sergio Perez (Red Bull).
In the overall standings, Leclerc will no longer be able to get ahead of Verstappen in the way that Formula 1 counted full points for the Japanese Grand Prix, despite the fact that the drivers did not cover 75 percent of the distance.
This title was the second for Max in his career. He tied for titles with Fernando Alonso, Mika Hakkinen, Emerson Fittipaldi, Graham Hill, Jim Clark and Alberto Ascari. Verstappen became the 11th driver to win two titles in a row.
Note that due to rain and accidents, the race in Suzuka was delayed by more than two hours.
The 19th round of the 2022 season in Formula 1 – the US Grand Prix will be held on October 23 in Austin.
