Former Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello has won the Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series title.
The last race of the 2022 season took place at the Interlagos circuit. Prior to his departure, Barrichello was third overall. The rivals of driver Daniel Serra and Gabriel Casagrande, who were ahead of him in the standings, retired during the race.
According to stockproseries.com.br, having learned on the radio of the gathering of competitors, Barrichello began to cry directly in the car. He managed to earn points on a damaged car. Barrichello won the championship, 14 points ahead of Serra.
Barrichello won the series for the second time in his career (the first in 2014). At 50 years, 6 months and 18 days, he became the oldest champion in the history of the Stock Car Pro Series, considered the premier motorsport series in South America.
In Formula 1, Barrichello is vice-world champion (2002 and 2004) and bronze medalist (2001 and 2009). In 2000-2005, his partner at Ferrari was seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.
