Czech Alesh Loprais in Praga won the fifth stage of the Dakar rally marathon in the truck category.
Loprais completed the 373 km special in 5 hours 6 minutes 57 seconds. Second place went to Dutchman Martin van den Brink (Eurol Team De Rooy, Iveco), 16 seconds behind the leader. Third place went to Janus van Kasteren from the Netherlands (Boss Machinery Team De Rooy Iveco, +3.24).
The motorcycle category was won by Adrien Van Beveren on a Honda. Another Honda team member, Chilean Jose Florimo (+0.13), finished second, while KTM rider Mason Klein (+5.13) from the United States took third place.
In the SUV category, the stage was won by Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah on a Tayota. It posted a time of 4 hours 13 minutes 23 seconds. Spaniard Carlos Sainz Sr. (+1.57) finished second in an Audi. Another representative of French Audi Stefan Peterhansel (+3.44) became the third. The crew of driver Denis Krotov and navigator Konstantin Zhiltsov showed time outside the top 30. The Russians had the opportunity to perform in the Dakar under the flag of Kyrgyzstan.
Francisco Moreno Flores from Argentina became the best in the category of quads, Rokas Batsiushka from Brazil won in the category of all-terrain vehicles.
Dakar takes place in Saudi Arabia, the marathon rally will last until January 15.
