Czech MM Technology driver Martin Macik Jr. on Iveco became the winner of the eighth stage of the Dakar Rally Marathon in the truck category.
Macik completed the 346 km special in 4 hours 4 minutes 28 seconds. Second place went to Dutchman Mitchel van den Brink (Iveco), 59 seconds behind the winner. Third place went to another representative of the Czech Republic Alyosha Loprais (Praga, +3.34), who retained his leadership in the general classification.
The ATV class was won by Argentinian González Ferioli in the BRP, finishing in 4 hours 16 minutes 18 seconds. Saudi pilot Yasser Seidan and Russian navigator Aleksey Kuzmich (BRP, +3.09) finished second, Spaniard Gerard Farres Guell (BRP, +3.18) finished third. In the general classification, the leader is the Lithuanian Rokas Baciuska (BRP).
The stage was won by a Frenchman in the off-road category. Sebastien Loeb from Pro Drive. It showed a time of 3 hours 34 minutes 24 seconds. Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota, +2.11) and Spain’s Carlos Sainz Sr. (AUDI, +3.31) finished next.
Ross Branch (Hero Motosports) from Botswana was the best rider, overcoming the stage in 3 hours 46 minutes 18 seconds. The second was the Australian Daniel Sanders (GasGas, +3.15). The top three were closed by American Mason Klein (KTM, +3.33), who received a two-minute penalty and lost the opportunity to get around the overall leader – his compatriot Skyler Howes (Husqvarna).
The Dakar takes place in Saudi Arabia and ends on January 15.
