Dakar 2023 has had tragic news after an accident between the Czech Ales Loprais and an Italian spectator who died last night.

The pilot who leads the general truck classification confirmed the tragic news that the organization informed him a few hours ago about the incident in his social networks. “I have very bad news… We were lying in bed when the Dakar organizers showed me a video of the race where we accidentally hit a man who was taking a picture of his wife behind a dune. He was injured, felt lightheaded and dizzy for the next two to three hours and had a heart attack on the way to the hospital,” explained Loprais.
And he added: “A human life ended because of me, indirectly, because I was the one driving. I must admit that neither I nor my crew realized it. We have the onboard camera and other videos that prove it . But that doesn’t change that a person’s life has ended. The man is Italian, but I don’t know his name from the investigation. A 69-year-old man who went to see the Dakar and unfortunately in behind that dune… and we didn’t see him, none of us. I want to express my sincere condolences to his family and friends. I’m very sorry for this accident and it will mult me for the rest of my life”, said Loprais who decided not to continue racing.
