German automaker Audi has acquired a minority stake in Sauber, according to the Sauber Group website.
In October, Audi announced on its website that it had chosen Sauber as its strategic partner in Formula 1 and was considering acquiring a stake in the Sauber group.
“The Sauber Group is pleased to announce that, in accordance with the plans presented last October, Audi has acquired a minority stake in the Sauber Group in January 2023. This is an important step on the road to entering ‘Audi in Formula 1 in 2026. The Sauber group will become a strategic partner of the German brand.
In May 2022, Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess officially confirmed that Audi and Porsche would join Formula 1 from 2026 as mechanics. In August, the media announced that Audi would acquire a 75% stake in Sauber as part of its integration into the racing series.
Sauber now competes in F-1 under the Alfa Romeo brand.
