The International Automobile Federation (FIA) will change the rules of Formula 1 after the situation with the Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso during the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia, reports the press service of the organization.
The Spanish rider finished third in Jeddah but then picked up a 10-second penalty and dropped back to fourth in protocol.
However, the Spaniard’s team managed to convince the FIA judges that the penalty was incorrect. Aston Martin representatives have insisted that accidental contact with a jack while the driver was serving a previous 5-second pit lane penalty for poor starting grid position cannot be considered “work with the car”.
As a result, the protocol of the race returned to its original state, which allowed Alonso to increase the number of prizes in his career to one hundred.
After this story, the FIA promised to determine exactly what is allowed to be done with the car in the pit lane and what is not. The exact wording will be announced to the teams before the start of the next leg in Australia (March 31 – April 2).
