FIA bans anyone from touching a car while serving a penalty at a Formula 1 Grand Prix

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has issued a rules clarification that until the fine expires, mechanics are prohibited from touching the car with a hand, jack or any other tool, reports the press service of the organization.

Otherwise, the fine will not be considered paid. In this case, the blowing of the brake discs with fans is allowed, but without contact with the machine.

The federation also clarified that several penalties can be served during a pit stop.

During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso finished third, after which it was learned that ten seconds had been added to his result. The two-time champion was punished for the fact that while serving a previous sentence in the pit lane, a mechanic hit his car with a jack. However, the team managed to prove that such a touch cannot be considered “working with the machine”, so Alonso was dropped to third position.

This weekend, the Australian Grand Prix takes place as part of the Formula 1 championship (March 31 – April 2).
