Carburando shared from within the Penske-DS team during the Sao Paulo e-Prix, in Brazil, with Formula E.
Formula E visited Brazil for the first time, where it developed the e-Prix in São Paulo. The cars correspond to the third generation of Formula E, which is lighter and faster than the previous versions. Carburando visited the Penske-DS team box, where he lives from within some activities of the electric car category in the South American date.
The cars driven by drivers Stofel Vandoorme and Jean-Eric Vergne correspond to the third generation, Gen3. We remember that at its beginning, obviously, it used the Gen1 (from 2014 to 2017) and the following Gen2 single-seater (from 2018 to 2022).
DS Automobiles is one of the leading brands in Formula E. And thanks to that experience, it uses the technology used in Motorsports to develop vehicles that contribute to the exclusive DS range in the world, such as the DS 7 E- Hold 4×4 .
Originally, drivers had to change cars at each competition, as the range was very limited. But technological advances have allowed a breakthrough in each generation.
The Gen3 produces some 600kW of total power between the new rear-axle drive motor, which generates 350kW, and the standard 250kW front-mounted motor.
With this power, the cars reach a final speed of 280 km/h on a complex circuit like that of São Paulo, although they can reach up to 320 km/h.
Efficiency is higher in Gen 3. That’s why Penske-DS cars achieve 40% of the energy produced by regenerative braking, 25% more than Gen 2.
They are also 60 kilograms lighter than their predecessors, while recyclable batteries, recycled carbon fiber from Gen2 cars, natural rubber and recycled fibers in the tires help make Gen 3 carbon neutral .
