Russian racing driver Nikita Mazepin estimated his chances of returning to “Formula 1” .
In April, Mazepin, whose F1 contract was terminated by US team Haas, revealed he was training with Russian driver Sergey Karyakin. Karyakin himself told that he advised Mazepin to go on the Silk Road.
What does your potential comeback scenario look like? The special operation will end, the sanctions will start to be lifted, and then what? Do you have a clear path in mind to return to Formula 1 once the legal hurdles are cleared?
– I see the way. At the first opportunity, immediately behind the wheel, – quotes Mazepin “Championship”.
But how do you get into F1? There are only about twenty places, the competition is higher and higher, the more the teams have been enriched.
– Miracles happen. I think if Kevin had been asked at the end of February if he would be driving a Formula 1 in a week, he would have replied: “Certainly not.” And now I say to you: “Anything is possible.” You see, since even he succeeded with this approach, then I can succeed.
“But you don’t just rely on luck, that someone urgently needs a pilot, do you?”
– Not much luck here. Yes, the same Kevin had a coincidence of many factors, but he wasn’t the only potential candidate, was he? However, Magnussen is in good form and has proven himself. I plan to do the exact same thing to repeat his success story.
– To demonstrate your own form, do you have to play in other series? Or do you have to be a reserve rider?
‘While it’s hard to say. Four months ago, I could not imagine that everything would change so much. And now I can’t imagine how everything will be fine – and hopefully – in four months.
Silk Road 2022 will be held from July 6 to 16 with a start in Astrakhan and a finish in Moscow. The total length will be 4380 kilometers, of which 2800 kilometers will be special stages.
