Driver Julio Cesar Castrillo and co-driver Francisco Javier Alvarez died in an accident during the Villa de Tineo rally in Spain, according to Marca.
The incident happened on Saturday during the Asturias Championship.
The Citroën car driven by Castrillo left the road and crashed into a tree. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the pilot died instantly. The navigator, who has a long experience in the world of rallying, also died. The event was suspended immediately after the incident.
Castrillo had previously taken a break from his career and resumed performing. Alvarez has previously raced for the Peugeot factory team.
