The new head of the Russian motorsport development program SMP Racing, Oleg Petrikov, spoke about his duties in the position. His remarks were quoted by the organization’s press service.
– Now my task as head of the SMP Racing program is to effectively use all resources for the integrated development of motorsport. Since 2014, I have been in charge of the Russian Circuit Racing Series. Then 84 participants started the first season, and last year there were already 145. The number of classes also increased from four to eight,” he said.
Petrikov noted that those who dream of a “formula career should be able to switch from karting to open-wheel cars.
— To do this, we plan to launch a full-fledged SMP Formula 4 project — and here the main role will be assigned to the BR Engineering division, which will be able to adapt existing global technologies to our realities, — said the responsible.
He also stressed that motorsport is not entertainment, but an important economic and social aspect of the life of the whole country.
– The spectators only see the tip of the iceberg – the races themselves, and they are preceded by the enormous work of thousands of people. These are jobs for mechanics and engineers, and it does not matter whether they work in the sports division of AvtoVAZ or in a private team. Motorsport is a field for the development of technologies and their transfer to mass production,” concluded Petrikov.
Petrikov, 38, took charge of SMP Racing in April, after leading the Russian Circuit Racing Series.
