Oleg Petrikov, Head of Russian Motorsport Development Program SMP Racing, on All for the Match! on he spoke about the protective measures for pilots which became relevant after the recent incident with Roman Golikov.

Earlier, racing driver Golikov escaped serious injury after his car caught fire during the third stage of the Russian Circuit Racing Series (RSKG) NSR in Kazan. The incident happened on Sunday, June 18. Golikov drove a Honda in the Super Production class, during the race fire entered the cabin, among other things. The driver got out of the car alone.

– I watched it all live. The heart froze. As contest organizers, we are responsible. But everything was done on time. The fire was extinguished in due time. Everything worked 100% fine. We will prepare for the driver to leave the car in seven seconds.

– How ready are the cars in the circuit racing series for this?

– The cars are ready, they pass the commission, there are fire extinguishing systems everywhere. The riders have special suits and helmets. Everything is tested.

– All these tragedies don’t scare you away?

— No, there have been many accidents. But he came back. After serious accidents, he became the champion of Russia. In 2013, he left and left. Fear is always there, but it’s important not to start making mistakes because of it.

Spectators go to the races because of the rubble. The pilots are fighting. Each pilot’s heart skips a beat during stalls. But these are races, they are unpredictable. But the tracks on the circuits are safe.

Is the level of circuit racing in Russia lower than in developed countries?

– The level of drivers and cars is not lower than that of European drivers. We’re just behind in the organization. Our history is just beginning to be forged, but it has existed there for many years.

The average speed on the ring is over 200 km/h. For different classes, the average is around 125-130 km/h,” Petrikov said on .

The fourth stage of the Russian Circuit Racing Series (RCRS) SMP will take place July 8-9 at the Igora Drive racetrack near St. Petersburg.
