Lavrov: ‘Sport should be out of politics, no matter how hard some personalities try to politicize it’

Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov at the start ceremony of the Silk Way Rally said that sport should be out of politics no matter how hard they try to politicize it.

The solemn starting ceremony of the Silk Way Rally takes place on Thursday at Millennium Square near the walls of the Kazan Kremlin.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be present at this fantastic event, at this meeting which marks the farewell to brave men and women. They will take the road, which is the oldest road connecting Eurasia. For the thirteenth time the rally starts, it shows how important it is for all our neighbors and all those who live in Eurasia to feel a sense of belonging to a common destiny, through sport, which should be out of politics, no matter how much some prominent people try to politicize it, – reports Lavrov’s correspondent “”.

Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov noted that any type of technical sport is in great demand in Tatarstan.

— It is a great honor for us to see participants from 23 countries today. It is very important for our republic, any type of technical sport is in great demand here. I thank the riders for their participation in the rally and Kazan for the warm welcome,” added Minikhanov.

The first stage of the Silk Way Rally on the Kazan-Ufa route will take place on July 7. The total distance in 2023 will be 5,248 kilometers, including 2,277 kilometers of high-speed special stages.
