It’s not the best place to attack, overtake, we understand that, so we drove very calmly. There was a comfortable advantage before the stage – almost 11 minutes ahead of Andrey Karginov and 13 minutes over Eduard Nikolaev, and three more minutes were brought. Stage eight winner KAMAZ master rider Dmitry Sotnikov said his teammate Andrey Karginov got lost at the end of the stage.
– The stage is familiar from last year, it is very interesting. I liked the first part in general: we went to Archedinsky sands, it was hilly. We tried to go with Andrey Karginov to make him more reliable. We met at the neutralization, everything went as planned, and in the end he disappeared. In some places there was a winding road overgrown with vegetation – and it was difficult for the first crew to get there. We tried to take the road clearly, carefully crossing a deep ford,” Sotnikov said.
The driver of the KAMAZ-master team, Eduard Nikolaev, reported on the accident of the leader of the off-road classification, Vladimir Vasilyev, who eventually retired from the race. He also talked about the progress of the stage.
“Today’s start was very slippery. It looks like you can see there are no puddles, but it’s very slippery. We started second behind Vasiliev, but he rolled over. The guys showed us that everything was fine and we walked past. The crew got out of the car safe and sound.
Viazovich failed to save time, he was the first to the finish line. I played it safe – it was very slippery, it was hard to go first. But after you yourself already leave a good mark, it is easier for the second and third to leave, – said Nikolaev.
