Madrid interested in hosting Formula 1 races

The capital hosted the Spanish Grand Prix until 1981

Madrid interested in racing Formula 1, as stated by the Minister of the Metropolitan Government Enrique Lopez.

If included in the Formula 1 calendar, Madrid will become the second Spanish city after Barcelona to host the most popular racing series.

Liberty Media’s contract with the organizers of the race in Barcelona runs until 2026.

Madrid hosted the Spanish Grand Prix in 1968-81 at the Jarama Circuit, which would need a major update to return to the F1 calendar.

In May, the Spanish Grand Prix was won by Max Verstappen, who leads the individual competition after nine races this season.

The next Formula 1 race will take place on July 3 as part of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
