The Formula 1 team signed a Ukrainian for the first time in history

14-year-old karting driver Alexander Bondarev joined the professional racing academy Williams Racing and could become the first ever Ukrainian driver in Formula 1

The driver’s partner is the Favbet Foundation, a charitable foundation that supports initiatives in the fields of education, health and sports development.

Williams Racing is a legendary independent British Formula 1 team, founded in the 1970s, which has its own history of creation and has made a significant contribution to the development of motorsport. Williams’ world-class people are its greatest asset. The team includes many Formula 1 legends, including world championship-winning drivers. The most famous are Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Alan Jones, Keio Rosberg, Nelson Piquet and others. The team also became a nine-time winner of the Constructors’ Championship.

Williams Racing has established its racing academy to develop young athletes in motorsport, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Formula 1 driver. Recent academy graduates include Logan Sargent, who made his Formula 1 debut this season.

Recently, Ukrainian Alexander Bondarev won the title of European Champion, and today he is sharing the next progressive step in his career, which will also leave a mark in the history of motorsport in Ukraine. A charitable foundation supports the development of a young racer Favbet Foundation.

By becoming part of the junior program, Alexander will receive more prospects for development, competing in the youth categories of motorsport. He will have full support, learn from legendary coaches and receive professional guidance from them.

“I am honored to join the Williams Racing Academy. Williams Racing is one of the most renowned teams in motorsports, bringing together some of the best drivers in the sport. I’m honored to have the chance to be a part of this story. From the age of five, when I started karting, I dreamed of Formula 1. I still have a long way to go, of course, but this is a huge step. I always knew that being part of the Formula 1 Young Driver Program was crucial and I will work hard to live up to the trust that James and Sven have placed in me.”says Alexander.

Williams Racing sporting director Sven Smits commented on the news: “We are pleased to announce that Alexander has joined the Williams Racing Academy. He is a valuable young talent that we have been watching for some time. At only 14 years old, he already has several exceptional achievements, including winning the FIA-CIK European Championship in 2023. Alexander has shown great potential at an early age and we look forward to supporting his development as he continues his karting journey.”
