Former Formula 1 boss Ecclestone sentenced to 17 months in prison for fraud

The former functionary paid 652.6 million pounds in taxes and received a two-year reprieve.

Ex-manager Formula 1 Bernie Ecclestone sentenced to 17 months in prison for fraud.

A former sports official has pleaded guilty to concealing £400 million in Singapore trust funds. On October 9, Ecclestone paid HM Revenue and Customs £652.6 million over 18 tax years.

The court sentenced Bernie to prison, suspended for two years. The judge took into account the lack of a criminal record, as well as the health condition of the 92-year-old ex-functionary.

Ecclestone has effectively run Formula 1 since 1978. Bernie left office in January 2017 and was replaced by Chase Carey.

Let us remember that the functionary said in 2022 that he was “ready to take a bullet for Putin,” supporting him against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ecclestone later apologized for his remarks.
