Former Formula 1 driver, winner of the Silk Way rally Nikita Mazepin said he received a response letter from International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach regarding the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions.
Earlier, Mazepin’s We Stand As One Foundation sent a letter to Bach, stating that sport is neutral and should not be subject to political, religious or any other form of interference. The letter also stated that all athletes, without exception, must have equal conditions of admission to participate in the Olympic Games, in particular – have the opportunity to participate in team sports and not undergo individual tests beyond the framework of the Olympic Charter. and anti-doping requirements.
— Are there any developments with the letter to Thomas Bach?
— There is a development of events. A few months ago we received a response and it was positive. From what I understand from this letter, Thomas Bach supports the idea that athletes should have the opportunity to compete,” reports a correspondent, reporting Mazepin’s words.
The fund was created to help athletes who, like Mazepin, have been excluded from international competitions for non-sporting reasons. Currently, the foundation helps 57 Olympic and Paralympic athletes, providing them with professional psychological and legal support, assistance with career guidance and obtaining higher or special education.
