Former Formula 1 driver and current SNAG Racing driver Nikita Mazepin thanked the leader of the rally-raid “Silk Way” Vladimir Chagin for inviting him to test drive a KAMAZ truck last year, which then led to participation in the race.
The Silk Road will run from July 6 to July 16, starting in Astrakhan and ending in Moscow. The total length of the rally-raid will be 4380 kilometres. Mazepin will compete in the all-terrain vehicle category.
— I would like to say a big thank you to Vladimir Gennadyevich Chagin, it is a great honor to visit the KAMAZ factory, to drive a sports truck. I’ve been on the pavement for 18 years, and now I’m in a rally-raid. For me, the biggest question is how do I ride 12 days in a row instead of a bi-weekly race. I haven’t fully felt the new discipline yet,” Mazepin said at a press conference.
