The current winner of the Silk Road cargo category, the pilot of the KAMAZ-master team Dmitry Sotnikov spoke about the problems he faced on the second stage of this year’s race.
According to the results of the second stage, Sotnikov took fifth place.
“Everything went according to plan, but on the penultimate sandbox they felt a strong vibration – the sand entered either the wheels or the engine. We stopped, panting – we realized that everything was working, but the car did not move: suspicion fell on the transmission. We got out and saw that the rear universal joint was torn off. We thought that one of our guys would help us, but in the end we went there ourselves, collected all the points and finished.
The relief of the track was badly visible due to the greenery, it was difficult to try to cut it – the speed dropped immediately. I had to be careful, take care of the car. Sometimes it even annoyed that the navigator shut up and didn’t talk about “pits-two” and “pits-three”, but the whole route was made up of them (laughs). The organizers did not prescribe it, they did not confuse the navigators.
We saw a rolled rubber tread. I think it’s related to the high temperature. Our brakes were getting hot and we tried not to drive so aggressively so the wheels wouldn’t blow out. Right at the finish line, it was on tired wheels, and it’s good that we got there,” Sotnikov told .
The arrival of the Silk Way Rally is scheduled for July 16 in Moscow.
