Former Formula 1 boss sympathizes with the people of Ukraine
Former Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone apologized for his remarks war in Ukraine and for the support of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
“Maybe it’s good for me to get rid of a few things. Things that bother me because of what has been said before and because of what people think about it, ”said Ecclestone.
“Often people come out and talk without thinking too much. Perhaps I did the same and I can understand those who think that I am defending what they have done. [путиным] in Ukraine, although this is not the case.
“I grew up during the second world war, the last war, so I know what it is. I feel very sorry for the people in Ukraine who are suffering for nothing. They didn’t do anything wrong, they didn’t start anything, they didn’t do anything and they just want to move on. They want their children to go to school, try to go to work and earn a living for their family. They don’t deserve to suffer.”
“I’m sorry if anything I said upset anyone, because I didn’t mean it that way.”
The other day, Ecclestone said he was “ready to take a bullet for Putin”, supporting him against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Later, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton criticized Ecclestone for his remarks. He said: “Ecclestone’s words in support of Putin are beyond my understanding.”
