Quadruple Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel recounted his last conversation with Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher suffered a serious head injury in late 2013 while skiing in the French Alps. He was taken by helicopter to hospital and the seven-time champion subsequently underwent several operations. There is practically no reliable information about Schumacher’s condition in recent years.
“It’s still very, very difficult.” Of course, I only wish him the best. My first thoughts immediately went to our last conversation… I told him I was going to become a father.
I think I really enjoyed our friendship towards the end (of Schumacher’s career) in the sense that before his accident our relationship was getting better and better. We both got to know each other more and more and racing was no longer the main thing that united us.
I just miss my friend…I think he would have played an extremely important role in recent years. When I had so many questions, he would definitely have the answers or could inspire me,” PlanetF1 quotes Vettel.
Vettel retired at the end of last season, his place at Aston Martin taken by Spaniard Fernando Alonso. Vettel is a four-time world champion with Red Bull (2010-2013) and later also drove for Ferrari.
