Ukrainian karting driver Alexander Bondarev begins the 2024 racing season with a victory in Italy at the WSK Champions Cup
Last week Italian track South Garda Karting attracted more than 280 participants from more than 50 countries of the world in different categories at the WSK Champions Cup race, held in one stage. Of them 41 karting drivers — in the OK category, where the Ukrainian competes Bondarev.
Qualifying took place on Friday, where Alexander took third place in the overall result. After three Saturday qualifying hits, he found himself fourth. On Sunday, the Ukrainian won the prefinal, starting from second position.
In the final, Bondarev also started second, positions were constantly changing on the first lap, and there was a fight for the leadership between Alexander and the Belgian Eyckmans. On the fourth lap, Eijkmans overtook the leader and the Ukrainian, moving up from third place to first. Alexander – went to second.
On the 8th lap, Bondarev begins to attack his opponent, and does it successfully. Alexander secures the first position, which he retains until the finish, finishing the race with victory and winning the WSK Champions Cup 2024.
In 2015-2016, this cup was won by the current Formula 1 driver of the Williams team, Logan Sargent. Let us remind you that Bondarev is a member of the Williams racing academy and the first Ukrainian to be signed by a formula team.
