Audi bought the Formula 1 team Sauber

The German automaker will become a factory F1 team from 2026

German automobile giant Audi officially announced the buyout of 100% of the team’s shares Formula 1 Sauber.

Sauber is a Swiss company represented in the World Circuit Racing Championship since 1993. Recently she took part in competitions under the Alfa Romeo brand. Previously, Audi planned to acquire a stake in the Sauber Group, but later it was decided to buy out the entire business.

Andreas Seidl will become the CEO of the Audi F1 team, having taken up this position at the Sauber team in April 2023. He previously worked for McLaren.

Back in 2022, it became known that the Audi concern would enter Formula 1 from 2026 as a supplier of engines to one of the teams.

Starting this year, new technical regulations will come into force, providing for an increase in electrical power and a transition to 100% environmentally friendly fuel. The hybrid powertrain will consist of an electric motor, battery, control electronics and internal combustion engine. At the same time, the power of the electrical part is almost comparable to the fuel part.

The new Formula 1 season started last week. The Bahrain Grand Prix was won by three-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull. Today he became the winner of qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The main race of this stage will take place tomorrow, March 9. Starts at 19:00 Kyiv time.
