Franco Colapintoa 20-year-old Argentine pilot who is part of the team MP Motorsport and compete with Formula 2clarified that his dream is to reach the Formula 1 and it’s ready in case you get a call from Williams. “Yes, obviously, you can call me,” he said.

The young man from Pilar, who was disqualified from the second Formula 2 race in Australia after he finished seventh, admitted that he started the season with some problems (he touched the wall in Saudi Arabia), but he has confident to accommodate. “I have a car to fight for the championship,” he assured.

In turn, Colapinto said he is ready for Formula 1 if there is a place at Williams. The last driver to jump from F2 to F1 due to an emergency was Englishman Oliver Bearman, who replaced Carlos Sainz when he developed appendicitis. At 18 years old, he had a tremendous debut: he finished seventh in Saudi Arabia.

“Yes, obviously, you can call me. I hope it doesn’t happen, although I hope it does,” he joked. And he added: “But there are always drivers waiting in case something happens. Being in the same weekend as Formula 1, it is obviously hoped that if it happens it will be for a more pleasant situation (NdR: because with Carlos Sainz). Usually these things don’t happen. It was a very isolated case what happened to Bearman and he had the incredible opportunity to race with Ferrari for a weekend. More on clearly what happened to Sainz, I think it’s thanks to Oliver that he enjoyed it a lot and the important thing is always to be prepared in case something like this happens. He looked quite prepared, he did a good job and it can happen to any of the pilots who are in the academies. For those who are there, the chance weekend is too big. I hope I can get up later, not because something happened to the starter, but because I am the starter. But he had a great opportunity.”

The organization confirmed that Franco Colapinto’s team “did not carry out a preparatory procedure at the start of the race” in Australia.

Colapinto’s review of his start to the F2 season

“It was a rather complicated start to the season. I expected a bit more. I was a bit above expectations and for one reason or another didn’t make it to the races. It’s a shame because we lost a lot of points. But we have to keep working, the season is very long and the results will start coming in. We have to keep pushing because these are the things that happen. There are a lot of drivers who are ready to fight the season and they have also scored very few points, so it’s been a bit of a strange season so far. It’s time to reset and move on.”he said in an interview with Infobae.

On the other hand, he gave the details of why he was disqualified in Australia: “I forgot to press some buttons that needed to be pressed before leaving. They disqualified me because of that. It doesn’t make a lot of logic, but oh well. In the beginning I lost ten places. The punishment is a bit unfair, but things happen. “We have to work so it doesn’t happen again, period.”
