Formula 1: Verstappen adds new victory in China

The world champion, riding Red Bull, won the F1 return in Shanghai and the podium was completed by Norris (McLaren) and Checo Pérez, along with the rest of Red Bull. The next race is in Miami.

The Dutch pilot Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was made this Sunday with success at Chinese Grand Prixhis first victory on the circuit Shanghaiwhere he returned Formula 1 after a five-year hiatus due to the national ‘zero covid’ policy.

The reigning world champion and current classification leader was joined by the British on the podium Lando Norris (McLaren) and his Red Bull teammate, the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez.

The best placed Ferrari is Charles Leclercwho finished in fourth position, while his teammate, the Spaniard Carlos Sainzfinished in fifth place.

The top 10 in Shanghai was completed by the British George Russell (Mercedes), the Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren), the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and the German Nico Hulkenberg (Haas, 10th).

Hamilton, who is the most successful driver in China with six wins, managed to reach the points after starting from the penultimate place on the grid after being eliminated by surprise in the first qualifying round (Q1) yesterday.

The race was marked by the abandonments of the Finnish Valtteri Bottas (Kick Sauber, engine failure), the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (RB), with a tire explosion caused by the Dane Kevin Magnussen (Haas), who was able to continue; Daniel Ricciardo (RB) couldn’t do it, who was attacked from behind by Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) at the same moment.

The Shanghai event is the fifth day of the world championship after Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Japan, and ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, which will be held on May 5 and will be the second ‘sprint’ format weekend of the season after, of course, China.
