UralMotorSport team driver Yuri Naiman told about the team’s plans to build a second truck for the Silk Way rally, the driver of which will be Alexey Popov.
Bach “Kagan’s Gold” took place from April 20 to 23 in Astrakhan. For the truck category, it was the first stage of the Russian rally-raid championship. Naiman’s crew takes 3rd place.
“We have a new navigator and a new mechanic in our crew, but they are getting used to it and we are already driving better.” We are building a second car, so preparations are underway. Co-driver Anton Kushnikov will drive the second car, in practice.
— When will we see the second Ural truck?
— We plan to build it for the Silk Road.
— Is there enough speed for the second crew? And who will be the pilot?
— The pilot will be Alexey Popov. Of course he doesn’t have any experience with the steering wheel yet, we’ll see as we go along.
— Will he act as a fast technician?
— Our first car is not the fastest (laughs). But everything seems to be working out.
— The UralMotorSport team made its rally raid debut last year. Can we say that we have already proven ourselves in this discipline?
“We’re still getting used to it.” We have a 100% finish – we have completed all stages of all races. Although there are minor defects in the car, we try to eliminate them – and we succeed.
— How many years will it take you to compete with KAMAZ-master and MAZ-SPORTauto?
– Hard to say. We give it our all in every race, look at the guys’ results and see that the gap is closing in every race. “Everything comes with experience,” Naiman told .
The Silk Road Rally will take place from July 5 to 15 across Russia and Mongolia.
