Racer Melnikov spoke about a car that caught fire at a speed of 150 km/h on the “Kagan’s Gold” baja.

The driver of the Podmoskovye team, Anton Melnikov, told that during the Baja race “Kagan’s Gold” a fire broke out in their car at a speed of 150 km / h, which the crew managed to turn off.

Bach “Kagan’s Gold” took place from April 20 to 23 in Astrakhan. For the SUV classification, it was the second stage of the Russian Rally Raid Championship. Melnikov’s crew took third place.

— What kind of emergency happened to you at the “Kagan’s Gold” baja?

— Unfortunately, every year, during the races, the cars burn, and not one at a time. Fortunately, we managed to put out the fire in time. Saturday was a killer track, I think the wiring wore out somehow. And the next day, at a speed of 150 km/h, as we crossed the steppe, white and acrid smoke began to escape. We immediately stopped, knocked out the mass and jumped out of the car.

Well, the fire didn’t have time to burn too much, we quickly put it out. The navigator then cut a piece of wiring that appeared to be shorted, isolated it and we were able to move on.

— Do runners train to put out fires?

— My co-driver Anton Nikolaev traveled for the factory teams, they trained. But our crew didn’t practice this, but Anton shouted loudly what I should do and I followed the instructions. It’s good that everything ended like this,” Melnikov told .
