“The dead spectator was not in the right place on the track during the rally” – president of the federation

President of the Automobile Federation of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region Olga Sivacheva told that the spectator who died during the rally was on the track in the wrong place.

The emergency situation occurred on Saturday near the village of Melnikovo, Priozersky district, Leningrad region. Investigators opened a criminal case under the article on the provision of services not meeting safety requirements. The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Leningrad region said that one of the participants in the competition lost control and ran over two men who were on the side of the road. A man born in 1975 was seriously injured and died at a medical facility; another victim was released after being examined by doctors.

— Tell us what happened on the highway, is there any new information on the victims?

— During the first high-speed section, the car hit a spectator who apparently was near the roadway. An ambulance was called, doctors arrived almost immediately and began to provide assistance to the victim. He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where the man died.

The race car drove into the bushes. I don’t know if this affected the second victim; rather, it was the bushes that touched his leg. The damage is not serious, but he was sent to the hospital for examination. We were told he didn’t need to be hospitalized.

The race was suspended and after receiving information about the death of a person, competition did not resume.

– Yes, he was in such a place. When we were preparing for the competition, we tied ribbons around the track, there are marshals who warn people. Half an hour before the race, a safety marshal walked the track and checked that all ribbons and other marshals were in place and that there was no one on the track. After the check, the order was given that the race could begin. Some cars passed by.

The marshal on scene said he warned people of the car’s approach and asked them to leave behind the fence. The collision occurred before the tape. I don’t know if he came to take a closer look or if he wanted to change location.

— Did the crew need psychological help?

— The pilot found himself in an unpleasant situation. Not only was there a collision with a person, and then they didn’t know she had died, but also all these considerations afterwards. Of course he is very worried about what happened, but it was just an accident.

— Do the traffic police and police officers have any questions to ask the crew?

— The pilot was questioned. You know, the tragedy happened at 10:20 a.m., and at 6:20 p.m. we are still communicating with the police, with the commission of inquiry, etc.

— Have criminal proceedings been opened?

– Yes, we are going there now, because a criminal case will be opened, the Investigative Committee, investigators and the traffic police will look into it.

— The crew was attending a sporting event. Is anything in danger for him?

– I don’t know. Currently, a criminal case is being initiated under the article for the provision of services that do not meet security requirements. The drama did not occur in the spectator area; spectators were not invited to the race at all. They find information on the Internet themselves and come. It seems to me that it was usually a person who came to encourage familiar runners.
