The new changes announced by Formula 1 for the cars in 2026: smaller and new DRS

The world’s most important motorsport category has reduced the weight of the cars and shown what will be a new overtaking system on the straights.

In the last few hours, the FIA ​​confirmed the changes that the cars will undergo for the 2026 season, following the “agile car” logic installed in the category in previous years. Among the main changes are the removing 30 kilos from the weight of the car and the end of DRS as it is known, forming a new overtaking system powered by the electric energy of the cars.

According to the FIA, the aim of the measures is to generate more competitiveness on the track, and only after the Monaco Grand Prix where the first 10 positions were maintained from start to finish, the announcement of changes for the 2026 season changed of the world of Formula 1.

30 kilograms less weight per car means, according to the managers, that the pilots can drive better and better.. The cars will also be 20 centimeters shorter and 10 centimeters thinnerbecause the wheelbase will be reduced from 3,600mm to 3,400mm, while the width will be from 2,000mm to 1,900mm.
