A little over a month ago, news hit the motorcycling world: Kevin Benavides, the Argentine two-time Dakar Rally motorcycle champion, suffered a serious accident training in his native Salta, and he met monitored forecast. Now, recovered but with rehabilitation ahead of him, he published a video in which he talks to his fans and gives details of what happened.
“I want to tell you what this month has been like, I’ve been a bit quiet on social media so I want to give you a summary of what my fall was, how I coped with this time and how we carry out the evolution. That day we went to train with my brother (Luciano) and I was the one who wanted to do motocross, even though it is normally the way around, Luciano was the one motivating me. The day before we did a roadbook almost 400 kilometers at an altitude of more than four thousand meters, more than five hours. We were a little tired, but I love motocross and I honestly don’t know what caused me to fall. and hit me hard” he remembered.
He then went on to list the balance of the incident: “It’s not just the head, it’s the same I broke my humerus, my elbow, my radial nerve, some cervical injuries. It shows that it has been a good fall. This type of head injury is a diffuse axonal injury and I don’t remember how autumn was, I remember very few things from that day, The good thing about not remembering how I fell is that I want to ride a motorcycle.”, Seriously.
“That same day They operated on me and it was supposed to take four hours, it took eight. I barely woke up I asked how Luciano was doing because it was the first stage of the Ruta 40 Challenge and they told me that he had fallen, so that day I saw him. They brought it and They put him in the next room. I was at 612 and he was at 614, I never forget those numbers. We made it easy for my family to visit me and stop by to visit my brother,” He continued with his story.
The 35-year-old man from Salta also did not forget to thank his loved ones and all those who were concerned when they heard the news that his condition was critical: “The most painful thing is torturing the person you love the most. I have an iron family that has gone through very hard days and is always with me. I also have to thank all the doctors. The messages from the fans came at the right time and were an important help in this process. I am committed to working every day to recover; I’ll be back, I’ll be back and I will continue to give my best every day.”
