He was supposed to replace Fernando Alonso
Australian Oscar Piastri refuted the team’s information Alpin about next season Formula 1 he will be the main rider of the team.
“As far as I understand, this afternoon Alpin, without my consent, issued a press release that I will be playing for the team next year. This is not true, I did not sign a contract with Alpin for 2023. I won’t be playing for Alpin next year,” Piastri wrote on Twitter.
Piastri was supposed to replace two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in Alpin, who will move to Aston Martin at the end of the current season.
For the 2022 season, Piastri is Alpin’s reserve driver and assists the team with car tests. It was reported that in the 2023 season he could become a Williams or McLaren driver.
I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year.
