Multiple winner of the Silk Way marathon rally and leader of the SNAG Racing team Sergei Karyakin told he had not encountered any issues with the racing equipment during testing before the race began, although there were concerns about it.
This year’s Silk Road Rally will take place across Russia and Mongolia from July 5 to 15. The race is scheduled to start in Tomsk and end in Ulaanbaatar. The SNAG Racing team will be represented in the rally by two crews: Sergey Karyakin and Alexey Shmotyev.
— You brought two brand new cars. Did any difficulties arise after the tests?
– In general, none. I am very pleased, I thought it would be much worse (smiles). The restrictor works very well, the gearbox shifts normally, although there were fears that there would be problems with it. There were no serious difficulties; the cars performed at the right level.
— How did Alexei Shmotiev behave when he returned to the Silk Road after a long break?
— He went to the United Arab Emirates to prepare, so he knows. But as the race progresses, he will accelerate and try. He does it carefully, a real rally raid driver.
— Are you ready for the race?
— Yes, the final adjustments of the cars are underway, we will pass a technical inspection and we will leave. We are determined to win all the competitions in which our team is represented, “Karyakin told .
The total length of the Silk Way Rally will be 5,243 km, the length of the special stages will be 2,992 km.
